A Little About Me...So I Can Tell You A Lot About Jesus
If you've come to our website, I'm guessing you're trying to learn about this local congregation in Mountain View, CA. I hope you find our website helpful and informative. If I was learning about a local congregation, I'd be trying to learn about the pastor. So, I offer you the following paragraphs.
I was born in Minnesota and moved to Southern California at the age of 5. I loved playing sports; all I had to offer my teams was effort because I was not blessed with much talent. I enjoyed school and learning, especially math, and took great pride in my perfect attendance (5th grade through 12th grade). I love organization, planning, neatness, commentaries, the Twins, the Vikings, the Timberwolves, beef, Guinness, spinach, and Michael Card. My best friend is my wife, Ellen. We are blessed with three children: Malachi, an aspiring drummer, and Liana, who has a wonderful sense of humor, and Isabela, who loves face-to-face communication.
So, what should you expect from me as a pastor? Well, I take God very seriously and myself not so seriously. I desperately desire people to read their Bible and understand it, so I yearn to teach it. I find great encouragement in God's design for marriage and families as found in Genesis, the Gospels, and Ephesians. As someone who has American and Mexican blood running through his veins, I find great comfort in knowing that our identity is found in Christ, and not in country, language, or experiences.
So, why did I become a pastor? Well, I became a pastor because I realized that hope can only be placed in the Lord. We cannot look within for hope; it must be found outside ourselves. Without the resurrection of Jesus, that validates Himself, His claims, His works, we are completely hopeless. Today, if you are low on hope, almost out of hope, or have no hope, consider Jesus, who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
